Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek was electrocuted while intervening in a malfunction in the machine room of the pool at the site where his house is located in Keçiliköy Neighborhood the other day. After a report was made to the 112 Emergency Call Center around 11:30 PM, health teams were dispatched to the address.
FERDİ ZEYREK'S HEART WAS RESTARTED AFTER 70 MINUTES Teams that arrived at the scene quickly began performing CPR on Zeyrek, whose heart had stopped. Zeyrek was transferred by ambulance to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, where CPR continued for approximately 35 minutes. His heart was restarted about 70 minutes after the incident. It was reported that Zeyrek, who was taken to intensive care, was in serious condition.
THE FIRST EXAMINATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED The first examination was also conducted in the machine room of the pool at the site where Ferdi Zeyrek lives. The results of the examination revealed the extent of the disaster. Mahir Ulutaş, President of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers, stated in a social media post regarding the issue: "We wish Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality a speedy recovery. A committee has been assigned for the technical preliminary investigation regarding the accident, which includes an experienced colleague who is a member of EMO, and a detailed report will be released in due time."
"RUST IN THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION, LEAK IN THE MOTOR" According to initial findings, rust was observed in the electrical installation and protective equipment, and serious issues unsuitable for wet areas were seen in the design of the electrical room. It is understood that there is a leak in the motor due to high humidity and that the protective equipment is not functioning properly.
FERDİ ZEYREK'S CONDITION IS SERIOUS The condition of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek remains serious. Prof. Dr. İsmet Topçu, Chief Physician of Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, stated that the intensive care process is critical and variable, but it is also a positive development that responses to the treatments have been received.
"GENERAL CONDITION IS CRITICAL" Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Topçu said, "As you know, Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek was intervened by 112 at the location where he was due to electric shock last night. Approximately 20 minutes of CPR was performed. He was then brought to our institution. A 50-minute resuscitation was performed in the emergency room. After that, a response was received. Following this response, he was admitted to intensive care. His treatment continued in intensive care. During this intensive care admission process, Ferdi Zeyrek was connected to the ECMO device for cardiac and pulmonary support. Following this ECMO connection, a good response was received. ECMO, as you know, is the application of oxygenating blood outside the body for patients whose heart's oxygenation is poor, and then returning it to the patient. A positive response has been received from this. As of this hour, the response continues. We have received a good response. There were issues with urine output. Continuous renal replacement therapy, known as dialysis, is being applied by catheterization at the patient's bedside. The patient's urine output has been achieved during dialysis. These are, of course, positive developments. This intensive care process is very dynamic. Anything can happen or change at any moment. The general condition is critical. However, all necessary procedures are being successfully carried out in our institution," he said.
"IT WOULD NOT BE CORRECT TO SAY ANYTHING DEFINITE RIGHT NOW" Prof. Dr. Topçu, stating that they are focusing on Mayor Zeyrek's treatment with all the resources of the hospital, said, "Not only a physician but all departments in our hospital, including neurosurgery, neurology, anesthesia, intensive care cardiology, and cardiovascular surgery, are working together with consultations for the treatment of our president Ferdi Zeyrek. It would not be very correct to say anything definite right now. There may be developments and changes. His condition is critical, but all necessary procedures are being successfully carried out. Of course, reaching this point is a very positive development for us. Our treatment will continue in this way," he said.
Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Topçu noted that Mayor Zeyrek's ability to hold on to life is due to the absence of any other illness and his young age, stating, "In fact, the absence of any previous cardiac condition or heart-related illness and the fact that he is a young patient helped in receiving this resuscitation response, even if it was late. Of course, if there had been previous comorbidities, we might not have been able to receive such a good response," he said.
