A taxi driver who was shot in Istanbul has lost his life.

In Beyoğlu, 53-year-old taxi driver Ali Sancar was shot dead by a passenger he picked up. Initial investigations by the teams revealed that all of Sancar's money had been stolen. A large-scale investigation has been launched regarding the incident, while Sancar's colleagues protested by honking their horns in front of the hospital.

A brutal incident occurred around 00:00 on Avşar Street in the Yenişehir neighborhood of the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. According to the information obtained; 53-year-old Ali Sancar, who had just started his shift, was shot by a person he picked up as a passenger.

DIED IN HOSPITAL

Sancar, who was shot in the head and robbed after the attack, was seriously injured. Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. While police teams began an investigation at the scene, Sancar, who was seriously injured, was taken to Taksim Training and Research Hospital. Despite all the interventions by doctors, Sancar died in the hospital.

Police teams conducting an investigation at the scene determined that all the money Sancar had on him was stolen. A large-scale investigation has been launched to identify and capture the assailant.

PROTEST BY TAXI DRIVERS IN FRONT OF THE HOSPITAL

Colleagues of Ali Sancar gathered in front of the hospital upon hearing that he had died. Taxi drivers, who protested by honking their horns in a convoy, came together again in front of the hospital.

Speaking on behalf of the taxi drivers, Eyüp Berk said, "We are very sad, today we lost another colleague in a matter that we have been fighting against for years and do not approve of. We are sorry, I wish him mercy, and I wish his family patience. We are in a very difficult situation; our profession is becoming increasingly untenable. The other day we lost a brother. Today we received news that a 16-year-old child attacked another colleague with a knife from behind. In the evening, we encountered the lifeless body of our brother Ali. We are tired of burying our colleagues one by one. We say this should be the last, but it never is."

Our families have started to put pressure on us. As these death reports increase, they tell us, 'Quit this profession, don't do it anymore.' Our children look into our eyes when we leave home, wondering if we will return safely. Our spouses call us 10 times a day to ask about our situation, and our parents have started to send us off with prayers. Day by day, we have started to become afraid because we do not know who the people we pick up are. When a passenger approaches, we think, 'Should we take them or not?' We have forgotten the greetings of the people who get into our cars; we only have one question in our minds: 'When the door opens, will this person attack me or not?' We are really very sad. We are here again this evening, and may Allah have mercy on our brother Ali. May all our colleagues be granted patience."
