In the city of Jiangmen, Guangdong province in southern China, it has been reported that 1,714 cases of Chikungunya fever caused by a mosquito-borne virus have been identified, and a level 3 "public health emergency" has been declared due to the outbreak.

THE NUMBER OF CASES HAS RISE TO 1714, 'EMERGENCY' DECLARED
According to the Chinese agency Xinhua, health authorities in Jiangmen city declared a level 3 "public health emergency" due to the outbreak. As of September 19, 1714 cases have been detected in the city, with all cases reported to be mild, and no severe patients or fatalities recorded.
EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Chikungunya fever, caused by the same virus transmitted by mosquitoes, is known to be an extremely contagious disease that can lead to outbreaks in North and South America, Asia, Africa, and to a lesser extent, Europe.
MANIFESTING WITH THESE SYMPTOMS
The disease, which manifests with fever and joint pain, can lead to swelling in the joints, muscle pain, headaches, nausea, fatigue, and skin rashes.
THE NUMBER OF CASES HAD REACHED UP TO 600 PER DAY
In China, the last outbreak of Chikungunya fever occurred in August in the city of Foshan, Guangdong province, where the number of cases had reached up to 600 per day.
