It has been claimed that former football player Ümit Karan was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for "simple sexual assault" against a building attendant in 2015. Karan, who denied the allegations of being arrested through social media, stated that he has an ongoing case since 2015 and that he has been handling his legal matters at the courthouse. Emphasizing that he is not in custody, Karan expressed that all the allegations are untrue.
Former football player Ümit Karan, who has been accused of being arrested, made a video statement on social media. "Hello friends, I had a case from 2015. I took care of my affairs at the courthouse, I am not detained," he denied the allegations.
A lawsuit was filed against former football player Ümit Karan for allegedly committing "simple sexual assault" against the security guard of the apartment he lived in 2015, with a request for up to 5 years in prison. The Bakırköy 37th Criminal Court of First Instance ruled for Karan's acquittal due to lack of evidence.

According to a report by Sabah, the lawyer of the security guard İ.A. appealed the case, and the file was transferred to the appellate court. During the hearing at the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice 20th Criminal Chamber, defendant Ümit Karan stated, "I have never wronged anyone in my life. The accusations are not true."

The Regional Court of Justice 20th Criminal Chamber overturned the acquittal decision and sentenced Karan to 1 year and 8 months in prison for "simple sexual assault at the level of harassment." After the appeal, the file was sent to the Court of Cassation. The 9th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation upheld the 1 year and 8 months prison sentence given to Ümit Karan. It was alleged that Karan came to Bakırköy Courthouse today and was sent to Metris Prison as part of his upheld sentence.
