Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer announced that a wall measuring 8.5 kilometers in length will be constructed to enhance security along the Turkey-Greece border.

Governor Sezer of Edirne made statements regarding border security at a meeting evaluating the city's public order. Stating that Edirne has ceased to be a migration route, Sezer noted that they have taken intense security measures along the border line.

He announced that, similar to the walls on the Turkey-Bulgaria border, a wall will also be built on the Turkey-Greece border. Sezer expressed that a wall of 8.5 kilometers in length will be constructed along the border line. He stated that the tender for the wall will be held soon and that work will begin, emphasizing the importance given to border security.

"FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE WILL TAKE PHYSICAL SECURITY MEASURES AT THE BORDER"

Governor Sezer of Edirne indicated that this year they will implement physical border measures for the first time on the western border, saying, "A wall and fences will be built along the border line. There were only patrol roads. The patrol roads have been completed. Now, as on the eastern border, a tender has been held for the construction of physical fences and walls. For the first time, we will have taken physical security measures at the border on the western border. Initially, it is planned to construct 8.5 kilometers this year. The entire border line will be constructed in the future. This is an ongoing project supported by the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Border Management. It started from the Greek border, and hopefully, we will continue depending on the situation in the future," he said.
