Following the health problems experienced by Cem Yılmaz, the symptoms of a heart attack and the importance of early intervention have once again drawn attention. Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Güngören stated that no time should be lost in cases of symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, and nausea, while also providing important information about the diagonal line seen on the earlobe, known as the 'Frank's sign'.
The health issues experienced by Cem Yılmaz have once again highlighted the importance of recognizing heart attack symptoms in time. Experts emphasize that chest pain and shortness of breath, especially when they occur unusually, should not be neglected.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE LINE ON THE EARLOBE
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Güngören, a Cardiology Specialist at Medicana Ataköy Hospital, explained what is wondered about the diagonal line on the earlobe known as the "Frank's sign." Güngören said, "In some studies, a correlation has been shown that the diagonal line on the earlobe, called the 'Frank's sign,' is more frequently seen in people with cardiovascular disease." However, he underlined that this sign alone is not sufficient to diagnose cardiovascular disease.
"NOT EVERY FRANK'S SIGN MEANS THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE HEART VESSELS"
Güngören stated, "However, it is not correct to conclude that every patient with a Frank's sign has problems in their heart vessels." He noted that therefore, people who see this line on their earlobe might benefit from being evaluated by a cardiologist along with other risk factors, rather than panicking. Güngören also emphasized that performing angiography or coronary CT angiography on every person with a Frank's sign is not a correct approach.
HEART ATTACKS MAY NOT SHOW THE SAME SYMPTOMS IN EVERYONE
Although chest pain is one of the most common symptoms of a heart attack, not every patient presents with the same picture. Güngören said, "While the first symptom in some patients is chest pain, in others it can be shortness of breath, and in some, fainting or a feeling of palpitations." He stated that especially in elderly people, diabetic patients, and those with certain neurological issues, the first symptom might appear as shortness of breath or sudden deterioration in general condition.
"IF THERE IS A DIFFERENT PAIN, CALL 112 IMMEDIATELY"
Güngören, stating that a burning sensation in the front of the chest, tightness, or a feeling like something is sitting on the chest should be taken seriously, said symptoms may also be accompanied by sweating, nausea, and a feeling of vomiting. Güngören warned, "When patients notice something is not right, they need to call 112 as soon as possible or go to the hospital immediately for a full consultation." Noting that patients with suspected heart attacks may require emergency angiography based on ECG results, Güngören said the goal is to get the patient to appropriate treatment as soon as possible after first medical contact, ideally within 120 minutes.
PAY ATTENTION TO SMOKING, SEDENTARY LIFE, AND STRESS
Hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and a family history of heart attack at a young age are among the significant risk factors. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and a sedentary lifestyle can also negatively affect cardiovascular health. Güngören, stating that intense stress can also affect heart health, expressed that hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol can raise blood pressure and pulse.
