In the Gümüşler town of Niğde, after heavy rain and hail, floods swept away 3 vehicles, leaving 1 person dead and 5 injured. AFAD and other teams have initiated operations in the area.
After the effective rainfall in the Gümüşler district of Niğde, 3 vehicles were swept away by floodwaters, 1 person lost their life, and 6 people were injured.
HEAVY RAIN AND HAIL CAUSE FLOOD IN NİĞDE
The heavy rain and hail that became effective in Niğde during the afternoon negatively affected life. Due to the hail, the surroundings turned white. Because of the puddles forming on the roads after the rain, drivers had difficulty proceeding.
VEHICLE SWEPT AWAY BY FLOODWATERS
In the Gümüşler district, Sabiha D. (41), Fatma T. (63), and Yusufcan D. (11), who were trying to reach the vehicle with license plate 19 HG 505, were swept away by floodwaters. Additionally, Rıfat T., Semra T. (37), Fatma Nehir T. (9), and Tuana T. (17), stranded inside the vehicle with license plate 34 DFD 145, were injured. 7 people, rescued from the floodwaters by teams dispatched to the region, were taken to the hospital for treatment, while Sabiha D. could not be saved despite all interventions and lost her life.
LOST HER LIFE
The citizens rescued by the teams were taken to hospitals in the city by health teams. One of the injured, who was taken into treatment at Ömer Halisdemir Training and Research Hospital, could not be saved despite intervention.
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR AKMEŞE
Governor Nedim Akmeşe, who went to the region and received information from the teams, told journalists that floods and overflows occurred in the Gümüşler district due to regional hail and heavy rain.
Akmeşe stated that upon notice, teams from AFAD, the Special Provincial Administration, DSI, highways, UMKE, health, gendarmerie, and the municipality immediately moved to the region, and noted the following: "Intervention was made with 39 vehicles, 13 work machines, and 216 personnel. Water drainage, cleaning, and damage assessment efforts are ongoing. One of our citizens with a serious condition, who was swept away by the floodwaters during the rain, lost their life despite the intervention at our Ömer Halisdemir Training and Research Hospital.
One of our citizens continues to receive treatment, while the other 4 citizens are being kept under observation as a precaution. We wish God's mercy upon our deceased citizen and extend our condolences to their grieving family and relatives. We convey our get-well wishes to all our citizens affected by the flood. I would like to express that our Minister of Interior also conveyed their condolences and get-well wishes."
