The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bakayi, stated that they welcome the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to disband and lay down arms, expressing, "We hope that this decision will contribute to stability and peace in Turkey and the region as a whole."
Iran issued a support message regarding the terrorist organization PKK's decision to disband and lay down arms. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Bekayi stated in a written statement that they welcomed the decision made by the PKK, expressing, "We hope that this decision will contribute to stability and peace in Turkey and the region."
Bekayi evaluated the PKK's decision to lay down arms as "an important development for regional stability and peace," noting that the decision is "a significant step towards strengthening security."
PKK'S DECISION TO DISBAND AND LAY DOWN ARMS
The terrorist organization PKK announced that it had decided to disband and lay down arms during an extraordinary congress held following the call for disbandment and laying down arms by its leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is imprisoned in Imralı Prison.
HOW DID THE PROCESS BEGIN AND CONTINUE?
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli stated during his party's group meeting on October 22, "If the terrorist leader's isolation is lifted, let him come and speak at the TBMM DEM Party group meeting. Let him proclaim that terrorism has completely ended and that the organization has been dissolved."
Following Bahçeli's statement, the DEM Party delegation applied to the Ministry of Justice on November 26, 2024, to meet with the terrorist organization's leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı. On December 9, 2024, Bahçeli applauded the speech of DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who called for a new beginning during the budget discussions in the Parliament.
On December 27, 2024, Justice Minister Tunç responded positively to the DEM Party's request. The first meeting of the DEM Party with PKK leader Öcalan took place on Saturday, December 28, and the second meeting was held on Wednesday, January 22. Following this, the DEM Party delegation visited their parties. The delegation met with Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, and Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq, in Erbil on Sunday, February 16.
On Monday, February 17, they met with Bafil Talabani and Kubat Talabani in Sulaymaniyah. After another meeting with Öcalan, the DEM Party delegation made a statement following the meeting on Imralı Island, reading Öcalan's message. In his message, Öcalan stated, "I am calling for the laying down of arms and I take historical responsibility for this call." Before the statement, Öcalan's last photo taken on Imralı Island was also shared.
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated in a press conference at the Party Headquarters on May 9, "It is a matter of time before the PKK announces that it has convened its congress. This is an important step. What follows this step will also be significant." Shortly after Doğan's statement, the terrorist organization PKK announced that it had convened its congress from May 5-7. On May 12, the terrorist organization PKK declared that it had disbanded and laid down arms.
