The protests, reportedly triggered by a joke told by Koç Holding Honorary Chairman Rahmi Koç about Kurdish women, have turned into armed attacks. After a Yapı Kredi branch was targeted in Diyarbakır yesterday, this morning two ATMs belonging to the same bank were sprayed with bullets by unidentified individuals.
THE JOKE THAT SPARKED THE TENSION
Koç Holding Honorary Chairman Rahmi Koç recently told a joke about Kurdish women, which drew widespread backlash. Following these remarks, organized attacks began against institutions within the Koç Group. Initially, two separate Otokoç branches within the group were targeted, and yesterday an armed attack was carried out against a Yapı Kredi Bank branch in the Sur district of Diyarbakır by unidentified individuals.
SECOND ATTACK THIS MORNING
While the anger towards Koç Group institutions remains unabated, another attack report came from Diyarbakır. Two ATMs belonging to Yapı Kredi Bank, located in the busy Ofis neighborhood of the central Yenişehir district, were subjected to an armed attack by unidentified individuals in the morning hours. Gunshots caused a brief panic in the area.
POLICE LAUNCHED EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATION
Following the attack, numerous police teams were dispatched to the scene after a report. Crime scene investigators cordoned off the area around the targeted ATMs, collected empty casings, and scrutinized security cameras in the region.
