Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu made striking statements regarding the trade war between the USA and China.
"THERE IS A GREAT TRANSFORMATION"
Responding to questions from Haberler.com, Davutoğlu said, "There is a great transformation in the global economic policy system. The policies announced by Trump will deeply shake the international political and economic system. The dominance of the USA in the global system was fundamentally based on three things.
One is the UN system, the second is the alliance system, namely NATO, and the third is free trade and dollarization. The economic dominance of the USA was based on indexing markets to the dollar. The recent decisions will negatively affect the free trade order. It will reduce the functionality of the World Trade Organization," he stated.
"WE MUST BE READY FOR TRADE WARS"
Continuing his statements, Davutoğlu said, "We need to be ready for global trade wars in the upcoming period. I am both excited that there may be developments that will open up Turkey's path and concerned that if the right steps are not taken, Turkey may suffer politically and economically." He added, "The right policy is to maximize Turkey's competitive power. The right policy is to increase the competitiveness of sectors in Turkey."
"WE MUST TAKE PRECAUTIONS"
Davutoğlu also stated: "Right now, a new door has opened for Turkey in the European Union perspective. The EU needs Turkey, and Turkey needs the EU. We need to quickly revise the Customs Union. We also need to cooperate on Europe's security. In relations with the USA, we must act to maintain the balance of foreign trade. We must take precautions against the disruptive behaviors of the USA in the international system, such as the risks of its Palestine policy.
In relations with China, Turkey has the capacity to be a logistics hub. Other countries should also be encouraged to see Turkey as a country with low customs duties."
