AK Party General Secretary Eyyüp Kadir İnan, reacting to the Turkey report published by the European Parliament, stated that the text is biased and lacks objectivity. Reminding that the sole guarantee of democracy is the national will, İnan declared that the march of a strong Turkey, which does not need the approval of external forces, will continue with determination.
AK Party Secretary General and Izmir Deputy Eyyüp Kadir İnan pushed back against the Turkey report adopted by the European Parliament. Stating that the report in question is far from reality and written entirely with political and ideological motives, İnan emphasized in a strong tone that no external intervention against Turkey's sovereign rights can be accepted.
The latest Turkey report published by the European Parliament (EP) drew a strong reaction in Ankara. AK Party Secretary General Eyyüp Kadir İnan, stating that the EP has once again confirmed its double standards and political biases against Turkey, said the prepared text was created with a biased approach, completely devoid of objective assessments.
"THE REPORT HAS NO VALIDITY IN OUR EYES"
Underlining that the sole source of Turkey's democratic legitimacy and independence is the national will, İnan reacted strongly to external actors' attempts to interfere in Turkey's internal affairs. Stating that no institution can dictate terms to the Turkish nation's will, independent Turkish judiciary, and the country's sovereign rights, İnan noted that such political moves from the West have no response or validity in Turkey.
"NO REPORT CAN STOP TURKEY'S CENTURY GOALS"
Continuing his statement, İnan emphasized that not external reports but the nation itself determines Turkey's direction, and he defended the country's democratic gains. Stating that Turkey's determined march cannot be hindered, AK Party Secretary General İnan reminded that the sole guarantee of democracy in Turkey is the national will, and said that Ankara is not a country that needs permission from reports or external actors. İnan concluded by stating that no EP report has the power to stop Turkey's "Century of Türkiye" goals, which encompass the country's global ambitions, and its strong progress.
WHAT DID THE EP REPORT SAY?
The European Parliament's scandalous Turkey Report was adopted with 381 votes in favor to 107 against, while the report included a call for Justice Minister Akın Gürlek to be placed on the EU sanctions list.
Since no amendment motion was tabled to remove the call for sanctions against Justice Minister Akın Gürlek included in the draft document, this emphasis remained in the final text of the report.
The report demands the activation of the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime against Turkish officials responsible for serious and deliberate violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms, "given the democratic backsliding."
Gürlek responded to questions about the report by emphasizing that the text is non-binding and said, "We have done our duty and continue to do so."
In a statement issued on June 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said, "We categorically reject the targeting of our Minister of Justice with baseless accusations by distorting the legal processes conducted by the independent Turkish judiciary."
