The AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler announced that traffic fines will not be reduced; on the contrary, they will be made more deterrent. Güler stated that the public's reactions stem from excessive radar applications rather than the high fines. Emphasizing that there is no such concept as a "radar fine," Güler noted that during the Eid al-Adha, 99.5% of drivers were not fined.
AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler stated that discussions on the bill to increase traffic fines could begin next week, emphasizing that there is no possibility of reducing fines.
"LAST REACTIONS ARE NOT DUE TO FINES"
Güler, who said, "The traffic fines currently in effect are already low. We are making this deterrent," added, "The last reactions are not due to high fines. They stem from excessive radar applications. Our Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Transport have established a commission on this matter."
"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RADAR FINE"
Continuing his remarks, Güler pointed out that there is no such thing as a radar fine in the law, stating, "There is no fine called a radar fine, friends. Radars are signs that show the speed you should adhere to in declared living areas, highways, dual carriageways, and other different road structures. You are obliged to comply with this. If you do not comply during inspections, you will be subject to an administrative monetary fine."
"ONLY A VERY SMALL PART WAS FINED"
Abdullah Güler emphasized that 99.5% of the drivers who took to the roads during the Kurban Bayramı were not fined, stating, "Only a very small part was fined. If you do not enforce this, the deaths in accidents during busy days like the holiday or at other times will increase. Therefore, we must implement deterrent fines and measures."
"WE MUST ADDRESS MEASURES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE"
In response to a journalist's comment, "There has been a greater increase compared to last holiday," Güler said, "Unfortunately, despite radar applications, there is such a situation due to driving while tired, at high speeds, and violations of red lights and lanes. We must protect the right to life and human life. We must address measures as much as possible."
AGENDA IN THE TBMM LOBBIES: RADAR
Moreover, following the Kurban Bayramı, one of the topics on the agenda of the deputies who started work in the General Assembly was the radar applications that citizens reacted to. While discussing the Kurban Bayramı, the deputies shared their observations on the roads, noting that citizens slowed down to comply with speed limits, which caused traffic congestion even in the left lanes. One deputy, while recounting a trip he made in his own car, said, "While moving in the left lane, normally, drivers would change lanes and give way based on the audible or visual warnings in our car, but this time it did not happen. They were moving slowly in the left lane, and congestion had formed. At first, I couldn't understand, but then I realized it was due to the radar application. Of course, we are a society that does not adhere much to traffic rules, and there is a habit of that as well."
