In the fifth wave of the corruption operation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), 30 individuals, including former CHP Member of Parliament Aykut Erdoğdu, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün and his Deputy Ömer Kazancı, as well as Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, were referred to the court with a request for arrest. Judicial control was requested for 6 other individuals.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed the procedures for 38 suspects who were detained as part of the corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), the investigation into the criminal organization allegedly led by Aziz İhsan Aktaş, and investigations related to the Cultural and Social Affairs Departments of the Büyükçekmece Municipality and Beşiktaş Municipality.
REQUEST FOR ARREST OF 4 NAMES IN THE CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION
The suspects, whose procedures were completed at the Financial Crimes Unit of the Istanbul Police Department, were transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after undergoing a health check at Bayrampaşa State Hospital. Among the suspects, former CHP Member of Parliament Aykut Erdoğdu, along with Ali Sukas, Veysel Erçelik, and Gürkan Polat, were referred to the court with a request for arrest.
CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION AGAINST IBB
As part of four separate corruption investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a total of 33 suspects, including former CHP Member of Parliament Aykut Erdoğdu, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, and Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, were detained during simultaneous operations carried out on May 31.
Later, 5 more suspects were captured from those who had arrest warrants issued against them, with 3 of them being in prison and 3 others determined to be abroad.
Efforts by the teams to capture the fugitives are ongoing.
