Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was attacked after a service he attended in the capital Yerevan when he was leaving the church. While two people from the congregation attempted to punch Pashinyan, he was hurriedly escorted out of the church by his security, and the individuals who attempted the attack were taken into custody.
After a ceremony held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, there was an attempted attack on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The incident, which occurred at the St. Anna Church, was prevented from escalating thanks to the swift intervention of security forces, and the moments experienced caused a significant stir in the country.
TENSION RISES AFTER THE CEREMONY
According to reports in the Armenian press, as Pashinyan was leaving the church under security measures after the ceremony, two individuals quickly approached from the crowd and attempted to attack. There was a brief moment of panic in the vicinity during those moments.
THE SPEAKER OF THE PARLIAMENT WAS ABOUT TO BE A VICTIM
One of the assailants shouted, "Don't look at me like that!" and swung his fist towards Pashinyan. The assailant's missed attempt was narrowly prevented from hitting the Speaker of the Parliament, Alen Simonyan.
SECURITY GUARDS INTERVENED IMMEDIATELY
Security personnel present at the scene quickly intervened to neutralize the assailants. Pashinyan was evacuated from the area without sustaining any harm.
THE SUSPECTS ARE IN CUSTODY
In a statement made by the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was reported that the individuals who attempted the attack have been detained. It was expressed that the suspects are being investigated for charges of "hooliganism" and "interference with the legal duties and political activities of a public official."
