It was reported that an administrative action was taken by the Ministry of Trade against a business operating in the Bodrum district of Muğla for selling a scoop of ice cream for 400 lira. Additionally, the ice cream pricing subject to the complaint was referred to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board.
A business operating in Yalıkavak Marina in the Bodrum district of Muğla responded with '400 lira' when a passing citizen asked, 'how much for a scoop of ice cream?' The citizen, who recorded the incident with a mobile phone camera, reported the issue to the Presidential Communication Center (CİMER).
MINISTRY OF TRADE CONDUCTED AN INSPECTION AT THE BUSINESS
The Ministry of Trade stated that immediately after the incident, during an inspection conducted at the business, price practices for the ice cream products offered for sale were examined, and as a result of the inspection, administrative action was taken against the business due to identified non-compliance with regulations. Additionally, the ice cream pricing subject to the complaint was referred to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board.
"OUR INSPECTIONS WILL CONTINUE UNINTERRUPTEDLY"
In a statement regarding the incident, the Ministry said: 'In line with complaints reaching us from our citizens via CİMER and social media, during an inspection conducted at a business operating in Yalıkavak Marina in the Bodrum district of Muğla, price practices for the ice cream products offered for sale were examined. As a result of the inspection, due to identified non-compliance with regulations, administrative action was taken against the business; furthermore, the ice cream pricing subject to the complaint was referred to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board. We continue our inspections uninterruptedly and decisively through our Provincial Trade Directorates across all 81 provinces, especially in our tourism and holiday regions where consumer activity intensifies during the summer season. No tolerance will be shown for any practices violating obligations regarding price labels, tariffs, and accurate consumer information. As the Ministry of Trade, we will maintain our field inspections uninterruptedly to protect our citizens' economic interests and strengthen a transparent and fair trade environment, and we will resolutely continue to impose necessary administrative sanctions against any practices that victimize our consumers.'
