The trial of the defendant who stabbed and injured a person in a relationship with his wife in the Derince district of Kocaeli led to interesting moments in the courtroom due to the victim's words.

The incident occurred on June 1, 2022. According to the information obtained, Ö.A. (44) fought with C.Ö. (60), who had been in a relationship with his wife for 4 years. As the fight escalated, Ö.A. took out a fruit knife he was carrying in his pocket and stabbed C.Ö. a total of 8 times, primarily in the chest. While C.Ö. was left bleeding, Ö.A. fled the scene. Health teams who arrived at the scene upon notification took the injured person to the hospital by ambulance. Police teams apprehended the fleeing Ö.A. After giving his statement, Ö.A. was arrested by the court and sent to prison.

"HE HARASSED MY WIFE"

The first hearing of the case related to the incident began at the Kocaeli 3rd High Criminal Court. The hearing was attended by the victim, who had been detained for a month and was released, the defendant Ö.A., the victim C.Ö., and the lawyers of both parties. Ö.A., the defendant who was given the right to speak for his defense, stated, "I was married to R.A.Ö. for 23 years, but I divorced during this process. C.Ö. met my wife through social media and they had a romantic relationship. For this reason, my wife left home three times to go to C.Ö. and returned home. I forgave her and reconciled. My wife returned home for the last time three months before the incident. However, the person named C.Ö. harassed my wife. My wife even obtained a restraining order against C.Ö."

"IF I WANTED TO KILL, I WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY KILLED"

Ö.A. stated that he coincidentally encountered C.Ö. on the day of the incident, saying, "I saw C.Ö. honking the horn at my wife while he was on the motorcycle. I ran and knocked C.Ö. off the motorcycle. We started to fight. He was cursing at me. My vision went dark, I took out the knife from my pocket, aimed for his leg, and I don't know how many times I stabbed him. Then I stopped and went home. After a while, the police came. This is how the events occurred. If I wanted to kill, I would have definitely killed. He found the fruit knife on the road while the children were going to school; I took it from them. It was still in my pocket."

"I DESERVED WHAT HAPPENED TO ME"

The victim C.Ö., who stated that he was not complaining about the defendant, said, "This is a very difficult situation for me; may God not surprise anyone. This is a source of shame for me. I deserved what happened to me. If I were in his place, I would have killed me, but as the defendant said, the relationship was not one-sided. I am not that kind of person. I am not complaining. If I were in the defendant's place, I would have done more because what I did was not right. I did not call R.A.Ö. or ask about her, but when she called me, I succumbed to my feelings. I happened to be at the scene on the day of the incident. The defendant misunderstood when another vehicle honked."

"I WAS WRONG, I CAME HERE BURIED UNDERGROUND"

The victim C.Ö. stated that the defendant attacked him, saying, "At the moment of the incident, the defendant first punched me from behind. I had a helmet on my head. To protect myself, I also punched the defendant. I was first stabbed in the chest. I was stabbed a total of 8 times, including my stomach, groin, and various places. The defendant said, 'Did you see how I chopped you up?' I did not respond. When I became motionless, he let me go. When I am wrong, I can't move. I was wrong; I came here buried underground."

"I HAD A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH C.Ö., THERE WAS NO SITUATION OF HARASSMENT"

During the hearing, the defendant's ex-wife R.A.Ö. was also given the right to speak. R.A.Ö. stated that they divorced after these events, saying, "While I was married to Ö.A., I had an emotional closeness with C.Ö., but ultimately I returned to my home and my wife. I had a romantic relationship with C.Ö.; there was no situation of harassment. On the day of the incident, I went to the market. When I returned from the market, I heard a horn sound on the street. I saw children on the street. I realized that the person honking was C.Ö. We had coincidentally encountered each other. My children started shouting 'dad.' Suddenly, they started to fight. I moved the children away; I did not see the fight between them."

The public prosecutor requested that the defendant be punished for "attempted murder under unjust provocation." The hearing was adjourned upon the lawyers' request for time.
