A report has been made that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack was carried out on another ship in the Global Sumud Fleet, which is moving towards Gaza to break Israel's blockade.
The Global Sumud Fleet made a statement regarding the issue on the social media platform of the US-based Instagram company. In the statement, it was noted that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack was carried out on a ship in the Global Sumud Fleet, which set sail from Spain on August 31 to break Israel's blockade, and it was reported that no one was harmed. The posts indicated that the flames caused by the attack were extinguished shortly after.
One of the activists on the boat, Leyla Hegazy, stated regarding the attack, "My night watch had just ended, so I went to bed because I had to get up again at two. The other watch had just started, and we heard someone shout 'drone' and we ran inside, I put on my vest."
AN ATTACK WAS CARRIED OUT ON THE LARGEST SHIP IN THE FLEET
The management of the Global Sumud Fleet announced on their social media account late last night that "a Zionist UAV attack was carried out on the largest ship that joined the fleet."
In a video released by the fleet management, one of the fleet's managers, Nebil Şenufi, stated, "No one was harmed on the ship, only minor damage occurred at the front of the ship. This was an expected situation, but we anticipated it not in Sidi Busaid, but in open waters."
Vail Nevvar, a member of the Executive of the Global Sumud Fleet's Tunis Declaration, mentioned in a live broadcast on his social media account last night that a drone attack was carried out on one of the boats coming from Spain.
In the broadcast, he stated, "An unmanned aerial vehicle attacked the Spanish ship belonging to the Global Sumud Fleet at the Port of Sidi Busaid in Tunisia, part of the ship caught fire. The information we received from the activists on the boat indicated that a substance was thrown from a drone to start a fire on the boat."
The Tunisian Ministry of Interior announced that the circulating claims about a drone falling on one of the ships were unfounded.
THE GLOBAL SUMUD FLEET PLANS TO DEPART FROM TUNIS TODAY
To join the Global Sumud Fleet from Tunisia, activists from different countries, including dozens of Turks and approximately 150 Tunisian activists, have been preparing to board the boats since September 1.
In a statement made from the Global Sumud Fleet's Tunis Declaration, it was announced that the fleet would set sail from Tunisia today.
The term "Sumud," which means "steadfastness" or "unyielding determination" in Arabic, has become a concept that describes the oppression and resistance among the Palestinian people after the Six-Day War in 1967. The concept of Sumud expresses ways to resist occupation and build alternative institutions through remaining on Palestinian land, keeping Palestinian identity and culture alive, and non-violent civil disobedience. In Palestine, the olive tree and a pregnant peasant woman are used to depict this concept.
