Saniye Caran, who was elected mayor from the CHP in the Korkuteli district of Antalya, announced that she has resigned from her party. Stating that she made her decision as a result of her own free will and conscientious evaluation, Caran announced that she will continue her mayoral duty as an independent.
Saniye Caran, Mayor of Korkuteli in Antalya, announced that she resigned from the Republican People's Party (CHP). Caran, who was elected mayor from the CHP in the March 31, 2024 Local Administrations Elections, stated in her statement that she had reached a new crossroads in her political life. Caran reported that despite leaving her party, she will continue her duty as mayor as an independent.
"I RESIGNED BY MY OWN FREE WILL"
Sharing her resignation decision with the public, Saniye Caran emphasized that she holds her responsibility to the people of Korkuteli above all else. Stating that her decision was entirely based on her own will, Caran made the following statement:
"Holding the responsibility I bear toward our Korkuteli and my fellow citizens above all else, as a result of my own free will and conscientious assessment, I have decided to resign from the Republican People's Party, of which I was a member, and to continue my duty as mayor as an independent. Today, as until now, my account is not for myself but for the tomorrows of our Korkuteli."
"I WANT TO CONTINUE ON MY WAY WITHOUT HURTING ANYONE"
Stating that there can be different views and preferences in politics, Caran expressed that she expects her resignation decision to be approached with the same understanding. Thanking the people she worked with under the CHP roof, Caran stated that she will not forget the efforts made in the past.
Caran said, "There will of course be different ideas, different preferences and different paths in politics. Just as I respect everyone's thoughts, views and decisions, I believe that this decision I have made with my own free will will be met with the same understanding. On this occasion, I thank everyone with whom we have worked together under the same roof, walked the same path, and shared responsibility in good times and difficult times. I want to continue on my way without forgetting any effort made in the past, without hurting anyone and without leaving any resentment behind."
"OUR COMMON VALUE IS KORKUTELI"
Emphasizing that the office of mayor is not a place where political differences should be magnified, Caran stated that she will base her understanding of service on Korkuteli's common values.
Caran concluded her statement with the following words:
"Because for me, the mayoralty is not a post where political differences are magnified, but a place of service where our common values are protected. Our common value is Korkuteli. The peace of this district, the brotherhood of our people, the future of our children and the happiness of our fellow citizens are above all political ideas."
