The Spanish government has approved the purchase of 45 HÜRJET aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). The estimated value of the contract is 3 billion 120 million euros, and deliveries are set to begin in 2028. The HÜRJETs are expected to serve for at least 30 years.
The Spanish government has approved the purchase of HÜRJET, Turkey's first national jet training and light attack aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ).
In the decision made during the weekly regular meeting of the Council of Ministers on October 28, it was stated, "The Council of Ministers approved the contract for the Integrated Training System (ITS-C) for combat and attack aircraft, with an estimated value of 3 billion 120 million euros, to replace the existing AE.09 (F5) aircraft."
The following statements were included in the Council of Ministers' decision regarding Spain's purchase of 45 HÜRJETs from Turkey:
"The necessity of this contract will ensure that the Air Force and Space Force meet the requirements for updating, expanding, and renewing capabilities in the training of pilots specialized in combat and attack aircraft. This system (ITS-C) aims to ensure adequate preparation for operations in new and complex security scenarios. The contract will be valid until November 30, 2035, from the date it is signed, and there is no possibility of extension."
HÜRJETS ARE EXPECTED TO OPERATE FOR AT LEAST 30 YEARS
The first delivery is expected to be used in the 2029/2030 training course, and it is anticipated that HÜRJETs will operate for at least 30 years.
On the other hand, the defense-related news site "Infodefensa" stated, "In this project, Airbus will be the national coordinator and driving force of the aerospace sector. It will be joined by 15 major aerospace companies in Spain, including Aciturri, Aernnova, Aertec, Airtificial, Amper, Centum, CESA, CLUE, GMV, Grabysur, Indra, Grupo Oesia, Orbital, and Sener."
DELIVERIES WILL START IN 2028
In the news, it was stated that a loan of 1.04 billion euros will be provided by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, spread over 5 years, and "According to the planned schedule, deliveries are expected to start in 2028, and the first delivery aircraft is anticipated to be on the platform and start training for the 2029/2030 training course. The new training aircraft based on HÜRJET is expected to operate for at least 30 years."
The site "Actualidadaeroespecial" also announced the decision made by the Council of Ministers, stating, "The agreement will benefit from Airbus's expertise in design, production, system integration, in-service support, and training, as well as the innovative design of HÜRJET, a supersonic, single-engine, two-seat training aircraft with advanced capabilities developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries. This model will form the technological foundation upon which the future training system will be built."
