As obesity rates continue to rise globally, experts are making striking statements about the issue. Associate Professor Dr. Mehmet Alper Öztürk stated that obesity leads to serious health problems and explained the necessary precautions to be taken.
"OBESITY RATES ARE INCREASING EVERY DAY"
Öztürk emphasized that obesity is rapidly increasing worldwide, stating, "By 2030, more than 60% of the world's population will be obese." He also noted that one in four women or one in five men falls into the overweight or obese category.
"SURGERY IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EVERY PATIENT"
Addressing the negative effects of obesity on health, Öztürk pointed out, "Obesity shortens life expectancy," drawing attention to the seriousness of the issue. However, the specialist stated that surgical intervention is not recommended for every patient with excess weight, saying, "We do not recommend surgery for patients with 10-15 kilos of excess weight."
WHAT AWAITS PATIENTS AFTER OBESITY SURGERY?
Öztürk mentioned that diabetes can be treated with obesity surgery and provided information about the post-operative process. He stated, "Patients can lose an average of 20 kilos in 3 months," and noted that skin sagging depends on the person's age and exercise habits. Speaking about the post-operative process, the expert said, "Patients start drinking water and soup 24 hours after the operation."
