(ANKARA) - In the trial where 61 defendants, 20 of whom are in custody, are being tried for involvement in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization, the prosecution requested the continuation of the detention of the 20 defendants in custody.

The trial of 61 individuals, 20 of whom are in custody, regarding the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization continues at the 32nd Heavy Penal Court in Ankara at Sincan Prison. During the trial, defense lawyers are making statements regarding their requests.

Lawyer Mert Doğan, representing the defendant Mahmut Gökhan Çanga, said the following:

"My client is accused of murder in the indictment. There are witness statements in the file indicating that the incident was a murder. However, both the defendant and the anonymous witness have given statements in the file. Another anonymous witness has also submitted a petition to the court and retracted their statements. I encountered the police officer who was involved in the operation against Gökhan 10 days after his arrest. We had a conversation and he asked, 'What is Gökhan doing?' He said, 'Actually, we know that this is not a murder case.' I leave this to everyone's conscience. I request the release of my client."

"Semih Arslan was not killed, he committed suicide"

Ela Leyla Umur, another lawyer representing Çanga, made the following statements:

"This ongoing trial has turned into a blind fight. M7 has exposed himself and revealed the setup, and deputy police chiefs have been arrested. So, I don't understand what we are still trying to explain here. Why is my client still in custody due to these rumors? Even in the case of police chiefs arrested on charges of attempting a coup against the government, concrete evidence was collected first and then arrests were made. Semih Arslan was definitely not killed, he committed suicide."

The lawyer of the detained defendant Yusuf İzzet Savaş also requested his release.

Prosecution requested the continuation of the detention of the 20 defendants in custody

After hearing the requests of the defense lawyers, the prosecution requested the application of judicial control measures for the defendants who are not in custody, while also requesting the continuation of the detention of the defendants in custody. The prosecution also requested the forced attendance of Murat Yanar, a complainant who did not attend the trial, and the acceptance of the participation requests of other complainants.

The trial was adjourned.
