Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli shared the details of the “100 Provinces 1000 Districts” project and announced to the public the 19 districts that are candidates to become provinces. In the project, which aims at regional development, reform in local governments and efficiency in public services, the districts included in the list from Polatlı to Alanya and from Bandırma to Siverek, as well as the new steps to be taken in administrative structuring, have become clear.

“STRATEGIC GROWTH MOVE FOR THE TURKISH AND TÜRKİYE CENTURY”

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli emphasized that the “100 Provinces 1000 Districts” project is a growth strategy for Turkey’s future and called for transparency and effective supervision in local governments. Stating that public resources should be used for citizens’ peace and welfare instead of rent-seeking, Bahçeli said that the proposed administrative structuring would eliminate sluggishness in the civil administration and strengthen regional development centers.

EFFICIENCY AND ACCESSIBILITY IN PUBLIC SERVICES WILL INCREASE

In statements to TÜRKGÜN newspaper, Bahçeli stated that with the implementation of the project, public services would be offered to citizens from geographically closer points. Bahçeli said, “Quality and accessibility, effectiveness and efficiency in basic public services, especially education, health, security and social services, will increase; administrative coordination will be strengthened and citizen satisfaction will rise significantly.”

LEGISLATION AND AREAS OF DUTY WILL BE REDEFINED

Stating that both the central and local organizational structure of public administration need improvement, the MHP leader said that the areas of duty between metropolitan and district municipalities need to be clearly redefined. Emphasizing that fundamental legislation such as the Metropolitan Municipality Law, Municipality Law, Village Law, Provincial Administration Law and Special Provincial Administration Law should be reviewed, Bahçeli drew attention to a merit-based personnel regime and the strengthening of the institution of muhtarlık.

THE POLITICAL SPACE WILL WIDEN

Stating that the project would affect not only the administrative but also the political structure, Bahçeli noted that with the establishment of 19 new provinces and 78 new districts, the distribution of members of parliament would change and this would widen the political space and increase social motivation.

HERE ARE THE 19 DISTRICTS CANDIDATE TO BECOME PROVINCES

The 19 candidate districts announced by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli were listed by region as follows:

  • Central Anatolia Region: Polatlı, Konya Ereğli

On the other hand, it was reported that the 78 districts targeted for establishment could be formed depending on the proposed new provinces or existing provinces in line with detailed studies to be carried out.

“THE FINAL DECISION IS IN THE LEGISLATIVE WILL OF THE GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF TURKEY”

Emphasizing that the announced list is not a final list, Bahçeli stated that objective criteria as well as population were taken into account, that new provinces could be added in the coming period, and that the final decision depends on the legislative will of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
