A notable detail caught attention in MHP leader Bahçeli's statement about a "Terror-Free Turkey." Responding to former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım's remarks that "the definition of citizenship can be reconsidered in the new constitution," Bahçeli stated, "Those who recklessly open the definition of Turkish citizenship, as expressed in the Constitution, are the sweet-water cunning ones who are contemplating disrupting the campaign for a terror-free Turkey."
Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Turkic States Organization Binali Yıldırım stated, "The name of our state is the Republic of Turkey. The definition of citizenship in the Constitution says, 'Everyone who is bound to this country by citizenship is Turkish.' They say, 'There is no right to live for anyone other than Turks.' There is no such thing; this is a definition of a nation, and there are elements of this nation.
For a thousand years, we have had Kurds, Turks, Syriacs, Abkhazians, and Circassians in these lands. The definition of citizenship can certainly be reviewed in the new constitution. Instead of defining and emphasizing an ethnic identity, an update can be made that prioritizes citizenship regardless of who one's ethnic identity is. This could free some ethnic groups from the thought of being neglected," he had stated.
BAHÇELİ'S REACTION TO BİNALİ YILDIRIM'S STATEMENTS
Today, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, who issued a new message for the "Terror-Free Turkey" process, also referred to Binali Yıldırım's statements at one point in his announcement.
"THOSE WHO OPEN THE DISCUSSION ON THE DEFINITION OF TURKISH CITIZENSHIP..."
Bahçeli, who reacted strongly to Yıldırım's statement, "The definition of citizenship can be reviewed," said, "Those who are particularly pursuing the imposition of a hybrid national structure and those who recklessly and with preconceived judgments open the discussion on the definition of Turkish citizenship, as expressed in the current Constitution, are the sweet water cunning ones who dream of interrupting the campaign for a terror-free Turkey."
THE FIRST REACTION CAME FROM FETİ YILDIZ
The first reaction from the MHP regarding Binali Yıldırım's statements came from Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız. Yıldırım quoted a post by Presidential Advisor Mehmet Uçum, stating, "Some individuals start to babble rapidly when they become functionless. Citizenship is a concept that expresses the legal bond between the individual and the state and is a form of political belonging. We are watching those who babble... we are taking note," he had said.
