At the 21st Extraordinary Congress of the CHP, Berhan Şimşek was unable to obtain the signatures of enough delegates, leaving the only candidate as the CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. In recent hours, the other candidate, Ümit Uysal, had also withdrawn his candidacy.
The CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress is taking place at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Ankara.
THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD IS NURI ÇAVUŞOĞLU
Stating that the necessary majority has been achieved to open the congress, Özel said that the Mayor of Denizli, Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu, was nominated by the delegates for the Chairmanship and put it to a vote. The proposal was accepted, and Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu became the Chairman of the Board of the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress.
ÜMİT UYSAL WITHDREW HIS CANDIDACY
Antalya Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal withdrew his candidacy shortly after the congress began. Uysal stated, "I will not continue my candidacy to avoid damaging my party."
BERHAN ŞİMŞEK COULD NOT GATHER ENOUGH SIGNATURES
A surprising development occurred at the congress held at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Yenimahalle, Ankara. After Antalya Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal announced his withdrawal from the candidacy, Özgür Özel and Berhan Şimşek remained as candidates for the chairmanship. As Berhan Şimşek could not reach the required number of delegates, Özgür Özel became the sole candidate.
