After parting ways with Vincenzo Montella in the National Team, attention turned to Berke Özer. The 26-year-old goalkeeper, who has been performing successfully in the Lille jersey in France, has come up for discussion to be called up to the Crescent-Star squad again.
After it was reported that the Vincenzo Montella era has ended for the Turkish National Football Team, possible changes in the squad began to be discussed. At the top of these names is Berke Özer, who plays for Lille, one of the French Ligue 1 teams.
POSSIBILITY OF A RETURN FOR BERKE ÖZER
It was claimed that Berke Özer, who was reported to have left the national team camp without permission after not being included in the squad following the Bulgaria match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, could be called up to the squad again after the change of head coach.
The future of the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who has been away from the crescent-star jersey for a while due to the process he experienced with Montella, will become clear once the new head coach is determined.
MONTELLA'S STRIKING WORDS
Vincenzo Montella had previously responded to a question about Berke Özer's return to the national team by saying, "Frankly, I have not received any phone call from him. Therefore, I do not think it is right to talk about this right now."
HE IS KEEPING HIS GOAL SHUT IN FRANCE
Berke Özer, who has put in a remarkable performance in the Lille jersey, conceded only 4 goals in the 5 Ligue 1 matches he played, according to the reported statistics. The national goalkeeper, who has an average of 0.80 goals conceded per match, recorded a save percentage of 81 percent. In particular, Berke's 9 saves in Lille's 1-0 victory over Toulouse was one of the standout moments of his performance.
HE WORE THE SENIOR NATIONAL TEAM JERSEY TWICE
Berke Özer has worn the senior national team jersey in 2 matches to date. The 26-year-old goalkeeper played in the friendly matches in which Turkey beat the USA 2-1 on June 7, 2025, and lost 1-0 to Mexico on June 11, 2025. No official statement has yet been made on whether Berke will be called up to the national team again.
