Honda has started a recall across Europe for some Civic models due to insufficient torque on the wheel nuts. Inspections of the vehicles posing a safety risk will be carried out free of charge at authorized service centers, and drivers will be able to check if their vehicles are included in the recall using their chassis number.
The Japanese automotive giant Honda has initiated a recall process across Europe for Civic models due to a technical issue related to production. The notification entered into the European Commission's records stated that a serious safety risk concerning the wheel connection system was detected in some vehicles.
SAFETY RISK IN WHEEL NUTS
Technical inspections revealed that in some vehicles, the wheel nuts were not tightened to the required torque value. It was stated that there could be a risk particularly in wheels made of alloy steel but lacking a pressed hub structure. Experts warned that this situation could lead to the loosening of nuts while the vehicle is in motion, the wheel detaching, loss of control at high speeds, and accidents. The statement emphasized that the issue is not compliant with European Union motor vehicle safety regulations.
RECALL ACROSS EUROPE
It was reported that the recall process covers Germany, France, Portugal, Sweden, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. Approximately 46,152 Civic models produced in the UK between 2017 and 2021 are estimated to be at risk. It is noted that the total number of affected vehicles, including other countries, could reach hundreds of thousands.
CHECKS WILL BE FREE OF CHARGE
Honda announced that they will directly contact vehicle owners and that necessary checks will be carried out free of charge at authorized service centers. If a problem is detected, technical corrections will also be performed free of charge. The company stated that the vehicles can currently be used, but drivers should pay attention to official notifications.
HOW WILL VEHICLE OWNERS CHECK?
Honda announced that drivers can check whether their vehicles are included in the recall by using the chassis number (VIN) on the official website. Experts emphasize that technical warnings, especially regarding wheels and connection systems, are of vital importance.
