"It is stated that the CHP will not attend the TBMM 28th Term 4th Legislative Year Opening Meeting to be held on October 1st, as they think that operations are being carried out directly against CHP mayors and themselves as a party, in protest of this. I find this decision wrong.
According to the Constitution and the internal regulations, the TBMM starts the legislative year on October 1st and convenes with a special agenda. Traditionally, our President can give a speech if he wishes. Today is one of the most important days for the Parliament. Until now, all parties, even if they have different views, have participated in these sessions, whether in small or large numbers.
It is everyone's right to love or criticize the President; however, there should be no fault in showing respect. The TBMM is the manifestation of the national will and the heart of democracy. It is the reason for the existence of political parties and members of parliament; it is the apple of the nation's eye.
"IT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN UNTIL NOW"
With the decision not to participate, the CHP is actually taking a stance against the Parliament, which harms the dignity of the Parliament. The CHP is a rooted party, and it has never been seen that the main opposition party boycotts the Parliament during the opening sessions. We can criticize the President or the Speaker of the Parliament; however, we are also obliged to respect them. The place to protest against them is not the TBMM itself. You can express your objections and carry out democratic actions at other times and venues.
I served as the president of this esteemed institution for two terms, for five years. During my term, my top priority was to elevate the reputation of the TBMM and its members. I have always rushed to every invitation from our Parliament. I showed respect to that esteemed institution.
My request from the CHP Chairman is to reverse this wrong decision and to be together under the roof of the parliament on October 1st."
