Cable theft attempt in Izmir disrupted metro services

Due to an attempted theft of cables supplying the signaling system in the Izmir metro, disruptions occurred in the morning services. For passenger safety, trains operated on a single track at reduced speed for a while, but services returned to normal as of 11:00 AM after the malfunction was resolved. Legal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident.

A theft attempt targeting the metro line in Izmir during the morning hours caused disruptions in transportation. After an intervention aimed at the cables feeding the signaling system between Bölge and Sanayi stations, a malfunction occurred on the metro line.

Due to the issue in the signaling system, teams quickly initiated work, and to ensure passenger safety, services were temporarily conducted on a single track. Trains proceeded at low speed in certain areas.

PASSENGERS EXPERIENCED DELAYS

Delays occurred in services, particularly between Bölge and Evka-3 stations. To reduce passenger density and prevent inconveniences, additional service arrangements were implemented by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

SERVICES RETURNED TO NORMAL

Following the work carried out by the teams, the malfunction was resolved, and metro services returned to normal operation as of 11:00 AM.

The municipality announced that final maintenance and repair work on the system would be carried out during the night hours, after the end of operations.

LEGAL PROCESS INITIATED

An investigation was launched regarding the incident, and it was stated that security measures have been increased to prevent similar attempts.
