The family of police officer Seydullah Orçan, who lost his life while trying to break up an armed fight in the Türkoğlu district of Kahramanmaraş, called for justice, claiming that 3 of the 4 people they alleged were linked to the incident had been released. Orçan's daughter, Burcu Orçan, claimed that the incident was planned.
The incident occurred on October 8 in the Beyoğlu neighborhood of Türkoğlu district. When an argument between two groups turned into an armed fight, police officer Seydullah Orçan (53) was shot and severely wounded while trying to break up the fight between the parties. Orçan, who was taken to the hospital, died despite all the doctors' interventions.
After the incident, security camera footage regarding the police officer's death emerged. In the footage, Orçan was seen arriving at the scene in his own vehicle and trying to break up the fight between the two groups. Moments when individuals arriving at the scene in another vehicle a while later opened fire with a gun and shot Orçan were included in the footage.
HE WAS AT THE SCENE TO BREAK UP THE FIGHT
Orçan's nephew and son-in-law Ökkeş Koç said, 'We want justice for my father. As seen on social media, we have neither a feud with the opposing side, nor a lawsuit over money owed, nor any kinship tie. There is only a similarity of surname. My father was at the scene after work to break up a fight between two groups. As seen in the security camera, he is separating the two groups; he does not intervene in any way. Afterwards, he gets into his car and comes home. After he comes home, the person who murdered my father calls my father. He threatens my father. My father then calls the person's uncle, Adem Orçan, and explains the incident. He asks him to intervene in the incident and calm his nephew down. They speak three times. In all three, he mocks my father and says he is at the indoor football pitch, playing football. Afterwards, the person calls my father again, threatens him, and swears at him. Then he calls him to the front of the pastry shop. My father goes to the scene. As seen in the security camera footage, the person arrives by car; there are four of them. While my father is talking on the phone at that moment, everyone runs away. My father does not understand what is happening. My father goes down the stairs to understand what happened. At that moment, the treacherous attack is carried out,' he said.
FAMILY: THE INCIDENT WAS PLANNED
Stating that the incident was planned, Ökkeş Koç said, 'As far as we understand, the incident is planned, as we saw from the security cameras. Four individuals arrive at the scene by car. The person who murdered my father flees the scene on foot with a gun in his hand. Those three individuals, at the place they planned by car, as also seen in the security camera, put the person who murdered my father into the car and drive him away. We want justice. Before my father was buried, before he was laid to rest, those three people, the three people who murdered my father, were released. We cannot accept this,' he said.
DAUGHTER: I WANT JUSTICE FOR MY FATHER
Burcu Orçan, the daughter of the police officer, who claimed that her father's killer was a substance addict, said, 'These three individuals—who brought to the scene the person who is a substance addict, who is also known to engage in this trade, and who treacherously attacked my father; who, as seen when watched in the security cameras, tried to provide aid and shelter from the scene in a planned manner; and who also procured a weapon—are free outside. I want justice for my father. I am calling out to the Ministry of Justice from here,' she said.
