The Mayor of Esenyurt, Ahmet Özer, was taken into custody at his home early yesterday morning as part of a terrorism investigation and was sent to prison after being arrested by the court in the evening. APPOINTED AS TRUSTEECan Aksoy, who was appointed from the Beyoğlu District Governorship to the position of Deputy Governor of Istanbul, was appointed as the trustee in place of Özer. OFFICIALLY STARTED HIS DUTIES AT THE MUNICIPALITYIt was announced on Esenyurt Municipality's social media account that Aksoy has started his duties, and the first photo from his office was shared. The post included the following statement: "Mr. Can Aksoy, Deputy Governor of Istanbul, has started his duties as the Acting Mayor of Esenyurt." HIS FIRST MOVE CAUGHT ATTENTIONAksoy's first move after officially starting his duties was to remove the photos of Ahmet Özer, who was arrested as part of the terrorism investigation, that were hanging on the wall and replace them with the Turkish flag. POSTS AFTER MARCH 31 REMOVEDIt was learned that Aksoy made another notable move after having the frames taken down. It did not go unnoticed that all posts made on Esenyurt Municipality's official X account after the local elections on March 31 were removed.
