Chile's legendary footballer Jorge Valdivia has been detained on suspicion of rape.

Jorge Valdivia, considered one of the most important playmakers in Chilean football history, has been detained on suspicion of rape. The Chilean prosecutor's office confirmed that the 40-year-old former national player has been arrested.

According to the details of the incident, a female tattoo artist who filed a complaint met with Valdivia on Sunday night at a Peruvian restaurant in Santiago to discuss tattoo designs. After having two cocktails, the woman claimed she experienced memory loss and woke up at Valdivia's house the next morning. Following the former footballer's confirmation that they had engaged in sexual intercourse, she filed an official complaint.

Valdivia, nicknamed "El Mago" (The Wizard), denied the allegations. In a statement to the press, he said, "I had a consensual relationship with an adult woman. I will fully cooperate to resolve this matter as soon as possible," and requested the media to "respect his right to presumption of innocence."

Valdivia, who has had a brilliant football career, won the 2015 Copa America and represented the Chilean National Team in two World Cups. The former player, who scored 7 goals in 78 matches for the national team, has been praised by legends such as Pele and Carlos Valderrama. Having played in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico throughout his career, Valdivia was also recently suspended from his role as a commentator at Radio ADN. The owner of the radio channel, Prisa Media, announced that Valdivia has been indefinitely suspended from his position until the court proceedings are completed.
