The Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Özgür Özel, made evaluations regarding the economic outlook in Turkey during the party's group meeting in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Özel, who complained about the low minimum wage, emphasized that the price of a Republic gold coin has exceeded the minimum wage for the first time in 74 years.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements regarding the agenda at the parliamentary group meeting. Özgür Özel pointed out that the minimum wage set for 2025 is low, comparing the minimum wage of 22,104 lira to gold.
"FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE MINIMUM WAGE CANNOT BUY A FULL GOLD COIN"
Stating that minimum wage earners are struggling to make ends meet, Özel continued his speech as follows: The minimum wage was first determined in 1951. For the first time this year, the minimum wage has become unable to buy a Republic gold coin. This is a situation that has occurred for the first time in 74 years, and I am complaining about Erdoğan to my Aunt Ayşe and Uncle Mehmet.
The Religious Affairs Directorate has issued a fatwa stating that minimum wage earners and retirees can receive fitra. Those who do this should be ashamed. After we promised to give retirees a minimum wage, they said, "We will do it too." For 3 years, they gave nothing, then they gave 1000 TL. When the bonus given to retirees is calculated based on the salary, it has decreased to a quarter.
