Balçova Municipal Council convened urgently to replace President Onur Yiğit, who was suspended from duty in connection with a bribery investigation, and elected CHP Council Member Selahattin Yıldız as acting president. Yıldız stated that he believes Yiğit will be acquitted and return to duty.
In the Balçova Municipality Council, CHP council member Selahattin Yıldız was elected as the acting mayor in the election held due to the suspension of Mayor Onur Yiğit from duty.
The Balçova Municipal Council convened with an extraordinary agenda in the council hall to determine the acting mayor to replace Mayor Onur Yiğit, who was subjected to judicial control in the form of "house arrest" in the "bribery" investigation targeting Seferihisar Municipality and was suspended from duty.
AK PARTY GROUP DID NOT NOMINATE A CANDIDATE
At the meeting, the CHP Group announced that their candidate was council member Selahattin Yıldız, while the AK Party Group did not put forward a candidate.
In the first round of voting, Yıldız received 20 of the 23 votes cast and was elected as the Acting Mayor of Balçova. Three votes in the election were invalid.
In his speech after the election, Yıldız stated that he believes Onur Yiğit will be acquitted and return to his post as soon as possible, and said he will work with great effort to serve the district residents and protect Yiğit's legacy during this process.
INVESTIGATION
In the "bribery" investigation targeting Seferihisar Municipality, Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin, Balçova Mayor Onur Yiğit, Seferihisar deputy mayors N.H. and İ.K., along with 25 suspects including them, were detained on June 25, and 12 suspects, including Yetişkin, were arrested. The Ministry of Interior announced that Onur Yiğit, who was subject to judicial control in the form of "house arrest," was suspended from duty.
