A striking claim has emerged ahead of Donald Trump's visit to Ankara for the NATO summit. Reuters reported that the U.S. administration plans to sell jet engines to Turkey before the visit. If the sale goes through, the jet engines will be used in Turkey's indigenous fighter jet, KAAN.
In a Reuters report, it was claimed that "The US administration is planning to sell jet engines to Turkey ahead of Trump's visit to Ankara."
"US TO PROCEED WITH JET ENGINE SALE"
A critical move came from Washington ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit next month for the NATO summit in Ankara. According to a Reuters news agency report citing sources, the US administration plans to sell jet engines worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Turkey. It is stated that the Trump administration is prepared to approve this sale despite potential objections from Congress.
TO BE USED IN KAAN
According to four sources close to the matter, the sale package includes General Electric-made engines to be used in Turkey's indigenous fighter jet, KAAN. One of the sources said the package's value could exceed $700 million.
US-TURKEY TALKS
Jet engine supply talks between Turkey and the United States have entered a new and dynamic phase following recent moves by the Trump administration, after past S-400 and F-35 crises. Turkey's steps in aviation with projects like its indigenous combat aircraft KAAN, and direct contacts between the two leaders, are increasing the US motivation to revitalize the defense partnership with Turkey. In summary, while the Washington administration is taking decisive steps regarding the jet engine sale, political and bureaucratic obstacles within Congress must be fully overcome for the process to become official.
CRITICAL CONTACT WITH TRUMP AT THE NATO SUMMIT
Meanwhile, speaking about the upcoming NATO Summit, one of the hottest topics on Turkey's foreign policy agenda, President Erdogan signaled an expected meeting with US President Donald Trump. While diplomacy among allied leaders is expected to be intense on the margins of the summit, Erdogan said in response to a journalist's question, "A one-on-one meeting with Trump at the NATO Summit is highly likely."
This will be Trump's first official visit to Turkey in his second presidential term.
FIRST TURKEY VISIT IN TRUMP'S SECOND TERM
Trump confirmed that he would attend the summit in Ankara, saying, "I will soon go to Turkey." This will be his first official visit to Turkey in his second presidential term.
