ÖSYM took action regarding two questions claimed to be erroneous in the YKS, where approximately 2.5 million candidates sweated it out. An investigation was launched into a character name error in the Literature test and a choice dispute in the AYT Mathematics test. Whether the questions will be canceled will become clear with the expert report to be released next week.
The waters are not settling after the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), which millions of students take with dreams of a good university. Following the allegations of "faulty questions" that have caused widespread repercussions on social media, national press, and educational circles, the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) has taken an official step by initiating a review process.
"NERMİN" CONFUSION IN THE LITERATURE TEST
One of the most talked-about and controversial questions after the exam was in the Turkish Language and Literature test. In a question prepared about Halide Edib Adıvar's famous novel "Handan," the name of the character "Neriman," which appears in the original work, was written as "Nermin," causing great confusion. Candidates and teachers, arguing that this name error directly affected the solution of the question, insisted that the question should be cancelled.
THE 23RD QUESTION OF THE MATHEMATICS TEST DIVIDED EXPERTS
Another area at the center of the debates was the Mathematics session of the Field Proficiency Tests (AYT). The 23rd question in the mathematics test divided even expert educators in the field. It was claimed that the answer to this specific question, prepared for finding the root range of a function from its derivative graph, was not option "C" as stated in ÖSYM's official answer key, but option "A." On various academic platforms, mathematicians, presenting scientific justifications, emphasized that there might be an error in the question's construction or its options.
THE FINAL DECISION WILL BE MADE BY THE EXPERT COMMITTEE
Following these agenda-setting allegations and the flood of objection petitions reaching the institution, the Center has put both questions under scrutiny. The outcome of the process initiated by ÖSYM experts is eagerly awaited by university candidates. The decision on whether these Literature and Mathematics questions will be cancelled will be made after a detailed review by an independent expert committee. The final result, regarding cancellation or validity, is planned to be shared with the public next week after the completion of the expert report.
