Istanbul Governor Davut Gül announced that he will file a criminal complaint regarding manipulative posts and voice recordings spreading on social media claiming that a "major earthquake is expected." Gül warned citizens not to trust such baseless claims and to follow the statements of the AFAD Scientific Committee. He stated that the identities of those making false posts are being identified and that a complaint will be filed against them.
The Governor of Istanbul, Davut Gül, announced on his social media account that he will file a criminal complaint against individuals circulating manipulative posts and voice recordings stating, "A major earthquake is expected." In his post, Gül said, "We ask our citizens not to give credence to such baseless shares and to follow the statements made and to be made by our AFAD Scientific Committee."
The Governor of Istanbul, Davut Gül, used the following expressions:
"Manipulative posts and voice recordings stating 'A major earthquake is expected' are being circulated on social media platforms.
These kinds of rumors, which are not based on any scientific data, serve no purpose other than to incite panic among our citizens.
We ask our citizens not to give credence to such baseless shares and to follow the statements made and to be made by our AFAD Scientific Committee.
Identity identification studies have been initiated for those who make such and similar baseless shares, and a criminal complaint will be filed against the responsible parties."
