In the trial of a factory worker killed with a shotgun in Gaziantep, the court sent medical documents to the Forensic Medicine Institute to investigate the rape allegations; the defendants remain in custody.

At the fourth hearing of the trial regarding the murder of factory worker Cengiz Akkurt, a father of five, who was shot dead with a pump-action shotgun in the middle of the street in Gaziantep, the court panel decided to conduct a new investigation into the sexual assault allegation raised in previous sessions. The panel ordered that all treatment documents be sent to the 6th Specialized Board of the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute to determine whether Melisa S.A.'s injury resulted from a sexual act or another cause.

WITNESSES HEARD IN THE HEARING

The fourth hearing of the trial concerning the murder of Cengiz Akkurt, a factory worker and father of five, who was killed with a pump-action shotgun in the middle of the street in Gaziantep, was held at the Gaziantep 1st Heavy Penal Court. The defendants, their lawyers, the victim's relatives, the complainant's lawyers, and witnesses were present at the hearing.

Witness Eren K. stated that he heard gunshots while going to his aunt's house on the day of the incident, saying, "A person with a gun came out from behind a vehicle. He ran past us downhill. The victim shouted for help and fell to the ground. Together with my cousin, we went to his side and applied a tampon to his leg."

PROSECUTOR REQUESTED CONTINUED DETENTION

In his opinion, the public prosecutor stated that there is strong suspicion that the defendants committed the crimes attributed to them, that evidence has not yet been fully collected, and that the risk of flight persists, requesting that their detention be maintained.

Detained defendant Muhammet Enes K., in his defense, claimed no involvement in the incident, stating, "I did not get out of the vehicle; I did not see the moment of the incident. I voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement. I have been detained for approximately 16 months and request my release."

The lawyer of defendant Uğur K. also argued that his client did not act with intent to kill, that the shot was directed at the victim's leg area, and that he left the scene, asserting that the crime should be considered under "causing death through injury" rather than "intentional killing." The defense also requested the client's release.

FORENSIC EXAMINATION INTO HARASSMENT ALLEGATION

The court panel decided to conduct a new expert examination regarding a significant allegation in the case file. The panel ordered that all treatment documents related to witness Melisa S.A.'s injury be sent to the 6th Specialized Board of the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute to determine whether it resulted from a sexual act or another cause.

Considering the existing evidence in the case file, the nature of the crime, and the strong suspicion of guilt, the court decided to continue the detention of defendants Uğur K. and Muhammet Enes K. Ordering the completion of missing procedures, the panel adjourned the hearing to a later date.

BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT

On the evening of February 8, in Seyrantepe District, Şehitkamil, Gaziantep, Cengiz Akkurt (53), a factory worker and father of five walking on the street, was attacked with a pump-action shotgun. Severely injured, Akkurt died at a private hospital despite all medical interventions.
