Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated after the fifth round of indirect negotiations with the United States held in Rome, Italy, "I hope that in the upcoming meetings, we can find solutions that will allow progress in the negotiations as Iran's positions are better understood. We have not yet reached a final conclusion, but we have not lost our hope either."
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made statements to Iran's State Television after the fifth round of indirect negotiations with the United States held in Rome, Italy.
"IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATIONS"
Araghchi noted that the proposals and topics raised in the negotiations would be brought to the capitals and evaluated by expert teams. Araghchi said, "This round was one of the most professional negotiations we have conducted so far. We clearly articulated Iran's positions and principles regarding the negotiations once again. Our stance is clear, and we will continue to stand firm on this issue. I believe the U.S. side now understands our position better and more clearly."
"WE CAN GO INTO MORE DETAIL IN THE NEXT ROUND"
Araghchi reported that Oman’s Foreign Minister Bedr bin Hamed al-Busaidi presented some solution proposals to overcome the existing obstacles in this round, stating, "The parties discussed these proposals in detail. It was decided that the ideas presented by Minister al-Busaidi would be further evaluated at the expert level by both sides. These proposals were communicated to the capitals without imposing any binding commitment on either party. Our approach is to evaluate proposals that can provide solutions while preserving Iran's fundamental principles and positions," he expressed.
Evaluating the next round of negotiations, Araghchi said, "It was decided that the parties would communicate their views on the proposals and solutions, and then plan the next round of negotiations. If these solution proposals are taken seriously in the capitals, we can go into more detail in the next round," he stated.
"THERE IS PROGRESS THANKS TO TODAY'S MEETINGS"
Emphasizing that the negotiations are not simple enough to be resolved in a few sessions, Araghchi said, "However, even if we are making progress on a reasonable path, it is still progress. I hope that in the upcoming meetings, we can find solutions that will allow progress in the negotiations as Iran's positions are better understood. We have not yet reached a final conclusion, but we have not lost our hope. There is a possibility of progress thanks to today's meetings and the solutions proposed by Oman," he said.
"THE TIME FOR THE NEXT NEGOTIATION ROUND WILL BE DETERMINED LATER"
Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated in a post on his social media account that the negotiations took place in a calm and professional environment, saying, "The fifth round of Iran-U.S. indirect negotiations has concluded in Rome. In this round, Iran's fundamental positions were expressed clearly and explicitly. In parallel with more detailed evaluations to be conducted in the capitals, the Omani Foreign Minister will continue to work on the details of the proposed ideas and present them for review by both sides. The time and place for the next round of negotiations will be determined and announced later," he stated.
