A lawsuit has been filed against Ferhat Karakaya, who killed his ex-wife with a shotgun on the campus of Erciyes University in Kayseri, seeking aggravated life imprisonment. In the indictment, it was stated that Karakaya, whose statement was included, arrived at the campus in a rental car on the day of the incident, entered by saying, "I have a 10-minute job," and mentioned that he had purchased the shotgun used in the murder online two years ago.
On October 23rd at around 11:30 AM, a brutal incident occurred at Erciyes University Faculty of Arts in Kayseri. Ferhat Karakaya, a student of Turkish Folklore, murdered his ex-wife Meliha Keskin (39) with a shotgun. After the murder, Karakaya fled in a car but was captured by the authorities and was arrested by the court he was brought before.
3 CHILDREN PLACED UNDER PROTECTION
Meliha Keskin was buried in the Başakpınar neighborhood of Talas district after the autopsy procedures. It was also learned that Keskin's dream was to become a teacher and that she returned to university after her divorce. It was reported that Meliha Keskin's 3 children were placed under the protection of the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services.
INDICTMENT PREPARED
The investigation conducted by the Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed, and the indictment has been prepared. In the indictment sent to the Kayseri Heavy Penal Court, Ferhat Karakaya, whose statement was also included, explained that he divorced Keskin after being married for 10 years, saying, "We divorced in 2022. We were married for 10 years. We divorced because she cheated on me. I bought the shotgun used in the incident from an internet site two years ago to use in the village. It was unlicensed. I also rented the vehicle I used in the incident to go to the village," he said.
ENTERED SAYING "I HAVE A 10-MINUTE JOB"
Karakaya recounted that he saw Meliha Keskin leaving her house, saying, "I saw Meliha getting into a taxi after leaving the house. I got into a taxi to follow her because I wanted to ask, 'Why are you leaving the children alone?' Meliha entered the Faculty of Education. I also went in, saying, 'I have a 10-minute job.' I asked someone there, 'Do students or teachers enter here?' Meliha went towards the gazebo. There were 3-4 men there. I shook hands with them and lit a cigarette. Thinking there might be a weapon with them, I took the shotgun from the trunk," he said.
"THE SHOTGUN FIRED SUDDENLY"
Ferhat Karakaya also described how he approached his ex-wife Keskin after taking the shotgun from his vehicle, saying, "I approached them. They panicked when they saw me. They got scared. When they started to scream, the shotgun in my hand fired suddenly. It hit her in the stomach. When she fell to the ground, it fired again. I don't know if I fired it or if it fired by itself. Then I set out to surrender to the police. On the way, traffic police stopped me, and I surrendered to them," he stated.
After the Heavy Penal Court accepted the indictment, Ferhat Karakaya will appear before the judge in the coming days.
