Mahfuz Güleryüz, the Deputy Co-Chairman of the DEM Party, who was a guest on Haberler.com, evaluated the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process with Melis Yaşar.
ANNOUNCED THE DATE WHEN PKK WILL LAY DOWN ARMS
Güleryüz stated that a group of 20-30 members of the terrorist organization PKK will surrender their weapons on July 11, but he mentioned that they are not aware of the exact location where the weapons will be left.
Güleryüz's statements regarding the issue are as follows:
"TURKEY IS DISCUSSING THE SOLUTION TO PERHAPS THE MOST ROOTED, STRUCTURAL PROBLEM"
"Turkey is discussing the solution to perhaps the most rooted, structural problem that has persisted for a century and remains unresolved. From this perspective, it is a very vital and important period. Therefore, we are talking about a story that particularly encompasses the last 50 years in the context of this entire process.
We are discussing the process of an organization, a structure, dissolving itself after a 50-year struggle, both in the context of armed struggle and in the context of the struggle conducted within Turkey's conditions and geography. Thus, it is very important from every aspect; both in terms of the crises and chaos we have experienced in the region and the problems we face as a country, including the economic crisis, the crises in foreign relations, and the social problems and issues we have encountered.
We actually evaluate all of these as the central issue of the unresolved Kurdish problem. We place the main focus here. Therefore, the fact that this problem has reached a stage where it can be somewhat resolved and that it is being discussed is considered a historical process. In this context, we are trying to take every step very carefully.
"A GROUP OF 20-30 PEOPLE WILL LAY DOWN ARMS ON JULY 11"
Immediately after Mr. Bahçeli's statement, Mr. Öcalan made a call. Following this call, we will have realized the committee for the PKK's self-dissolution. Ultimately, in terms of the process taking a tangible form, a segment or a part will lay down arms in a ceremony on the 11th, which, as I just mentioned, is indeed historically significant. Therefore, the expectation is that all developments have essentially evolved to this point or have gained concreteness at this point, and everyone hopes that this ceremony on the 11th will go smoothly.
A number was also mentioned. From the statements of the parties, we know, like you, that we are following it from the public, the press, and the media. It was mentioned that there would be a group of 20 to 30 people. It was stated that there would be high-level members among them on the 11th.
"WE ARE NOT AWARE OF THE DETAILS OF WHERE THE WEAPONS WILL BE LEFT"
We are indeed not aware of the details of where the weapons will be left. We assume that the parties have discussed this among themselves. But I think what is important is that the weapons are being surrendered without getting caught up in this technical detail. What is important is that the PKK is practically implementing the decision it has made in front of the eyes of the entire world public and especially the Turkish public.
Therefore, the fact that the first practical step in this regard is thus realized, as I mentioned earlier, is a historical moment. This moment will be an important historical step for Turkey's history and for the opening of Turkey's democracy."
