The claim made on Ekrem İmamoğlu's social media account that "24 thousand housing units have started construction in Sazlıdere for the Kanal İstanbul project" has been denied.

The Presidency's Communication Directorate's Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) reported that the claims regarding a housing project carried out by TOKİ in Istanbul are not true.

"THE HOUSING PROJECT HAS NO CONNECTION TO KANAL İSTANBUL"

In a statement made on DMM's social media account, it was stated that "the routine social housing project carried out by TOKİ has no connection to any detention process."

The statement emphasized that the public should not give credence to baseless claims aimed at manipulating public opinion, and it noted:

"The housing project in question is not aimed at luxury housing as claimed. On the contrary, it has been initiated by TOKİ in Arnavutköy Sazlıbosna, Istanbul, as part of the 250 Thousand Social Housing Project, which is the largest social housing initiative in the history of the Republic, to enable low-income citizens to own homes. The housing project has no connection to the Kanal İstanbul project. The zoning plans for the project were finalized in three phases in 2021. Tenders for the phases began to be held on December 26, 2024."

WHAT HAPPENED?

In a statement made on the social media account of Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of an operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, it was stated, "Taking advantage of my absence, they started the construction of 24 thousand housing units around the Sazlıdere Dam, one of the most important water sources of the European Side, for the sake of the rent and plunder project called 'Kanal İstanbul'."
