Ekrem İmamoğlu's response to the SGK's seizure decision: "Come, let's see you shake one of our citizens."

İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the seizure of municipal companies' assets and the blocking of bank accounts due to SGK debts, saying, "Come on, shake one of our citizens."

IBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu spoke at the opening of the City Restaurant in Çerkezköy. In his speech here, he reacted to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security's initiation of seizures against the Social Security Institution (SGK) debts of Adana, Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Mersin Metropolitan Municipalities, and Şişli Municipality.

"YOU ARE ATTACKING THE MUNICIPALITIES"

Imamoğlu, who said, "They have found a new way to attack us. They are seizing SGK debts, and they made news saying they did it in Istanbul, but we haven't reached it yet," added, "Can you believe the words? 'Shake the municipalities,' they say. Let me give you a few numbers. Municipalities have a total SGK debt of 96 billion lira. SGK's revenues for 2024 are 3.5 trillion lira. The total debt of all municipalities to SGK is not even 2.7% of their total revenue. You are attacking the municipalities. Why? Because you lost the elections to the municipalities. That is, nearly 420 municipalities were won by the CHP. If you continue with this mindset, it will be 850 in the next election."

"IF YOU HAVE THE GUTS, COME SHAKE"

Imamoğlu also stated, "I spoke with the Minister of Finance and told him to make a restructuring so that people can serve. This is being done to damage the reputation of CHP municipalities. The number of CHP municipalities has increased from 200 to 400. It doubled. So, did CHP municipalities accumulate debt in 7-8 months? We are paying the debts of AK Party municipalities. They have their eyes set on the treasury of CHP municipalities. With God's permission, we will come and pay the debts you have made in the first general election. This is a wrestling arena. Come on, shake one of our citizens. Let's see. If you have the guts, come shake. This is a wrestling arena."
