FROM THE INDICTMENT
The case opened against seven people, including İmamoğlu, is based on an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Interior regarding İmamoğlu's term as the Mayor of Beylikdüzü. The subject of the investigation is a tender held on December 29, 2015.
The Beylikdüzü municipality had put out a tender for the employment of personnel in cultural centers and the procurement of cultural and artistic organization services, which was won by the E. company. The second company, B., claimed that the first company did not meet the qualifications and appealed, but the municipal authorities rejected the appeal.
The Ministry of Interior also initiated an investigation regarding the tender process. When the Ministry of Interior's Inspectorate sent the report prepared as a result of the investigation to the Büyükçekmece Prosecutor's Office, the prosecutor's office requested permission to investigate seven individuals, including İmamoğlu, who were stated to be responsible for the tender.
After the ministry granted permission for the investigation, the file was taken to the Council of State, which found it appropriate to grant permission for the investigation on October 20, 2020.
After completing its investigation, the prosecutor's office prepared an indictment against seven individuals, including İmamoğlu, on charges of 'manipulating a tender,' seeking prison sentences of three to seven years. The prosecutor's office also requested the application of Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code, known to the public as 'political ban,' which concerns deprivation of certain rights for İmamoğlu and the seven individuals.
