President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the '2024 Renewable Energy Investments Collective Opening Ceremony' at the Beştepe Congress and Culture Center.

Evaluating the current issues, Erdoğan also referred to the conflict that erupted between Pakistan and India over competition in the energy sector. In his assessment of the situation, Erdoğan stated, "The energy cuts in Europe have once again demonstrated the indispensable place of energy. It will become even more important in the future. We cannot read the tensions in many regions of the world from Africa to Asia independently of energy. The mentality that sees a drop of oil as more valuable than flowing blood has not changed, and it will not change. They will continue to feed on the blood of the oppressed."

Highlights from Erdoğan's statements;

"My dear nation, I greet you with all my heartfelt feelings, the valuable members of our Ministry of Energy. Welcome to the Presidential Complex, the home of the nation. I thank the esteemed minister and his team for facilitating this meaningful program. It is expressed by everyone that our country has gained a different momentum in the energy field. As Turkey, we are almost in a race with ourselves in energy. I hope that the investments will be beneficial for our country, our nation, and our energy sectors. Developing economies are above the world average to compensate for the past and to reach a certain level of development."

"THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY GREENHOUSE GAS IS GROWING"

We are in an era where energy has become one of the most important issues for all states. Our world is growing, and supply is also rapidly increasing. In a scenario where the need for energy is increasing every day, new risks are added to the environment, which is facing the threat of global warming. On one hand, we are using more energy while destroying the environment. When we add global risks to this, it will become clearer how complex the problems we face are. The damage caused to the world by greenhouse gases resulting from energy consumption is also growing.

"TENSIONS IN MANY REGIONS OF THE WORLD..."

As our energy demand rises rapidly, our energy resources are depleting, and our world is becoming polluted. All countries, including developed states, are planning their energy policies according to this scenario. As competition intensifies, efforts towards energy supply security are increasing. Even advantageous countries are acting knowing that their reserves will run out in the not-so-distant future. These issues are seen as direct threats to national security and have turned into matters of survival. The energy cuts in Europe have once again demonstrated the indispensable place of energy. It will become even more important in the future. We cannot read the tensions in many regions of the world from Africa to Asia independently of energy. The mentality that sees a drop of oil as more valuable than flowing blood has not changed, and it will not change. They will continue to feed on the blood of the oppressed.

"WE HAVE CHANGED OUR UNFAVORABLE HISTORY"

We see energy as a matter of cooperation where interests will reconcile. We are committed to winning together, not exploiting. We will preserve this fair attitude at all costs and under all circumstances. The energy sector is at the forefront of our successful areas. We have made serious investments in every field. With the discoveries in the Black Sea and Gabar, we have changed our unfavorable history. We have transformed Turkey into a center where energy corridors intersect. Everyone who puts their hand on their conscience already acknowledges that Turkey has made a significant leap in the energy field. With the Akkuyu Plant, we have elevated our country to a different league.

"WE RANK 5TH IN EUROPE AND 11TH IN THE WORLD"

We see that energy demand will increase by 50% by 2035. We have an energy bill in the range of 60-100 billion dollars. Our goal is to reduce this bill and make our country a net exporter. Renewable energy is one of the most important pillars to achieve our goals. We rank 5th in Europe and 11th in the world in renewable energy. We emphasize the implementation of strategies for the diversification of energy sources and the evaluation of renewable energy sources.

"WE WILL REDUCE THE PERMIT PERIOD FROM 48 MONTHS TO 18 MONTHS"

We stand by our investors in renewable energy. Today, we have 500 manufacturers in the sector. This has provided employment for 50,000 people with main equipment manufacturers and subcontractors. We will reach much better levels. We do not overlook the difficulties faced by investors. We will reduce the permit period from 48 months to 18 months. We will present the issue to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as soon as possible and simplify this matter. We will quickly bring capacities to life.

REACTION TO THE OPPOSITION

None of these records, developments, and vision focuses are on the opposition's agenda. They do not follow or care about any of these. They have turned a blind eye not only to corruption allegations but also to global issues. They have eyes but do not see, ears but do not hear. Even though they know the truths very well, they do not dare to voice them. We remind those who think they can hide their heads in the sand that the truth is inescapable. In defiance of those who try to consume our country's energy with fake and absurd debates, we work day and night to increase Turkey's energy, we speak with our works, and we speak with our investments. Today, our country's greatest need is not to compete in words but to compete in services and works.

In 2024, 6,182 electricity generation plants will be commissioned in 81 provinces. The total value is 5 billion dollars. The annual capacity of renewable investments is 23.8 terawatt-hours. The savings it provides is 1.3 billion dollars. Our renewable energy investments in 2024 are greater than the installed capacity of many countries. We will continue to encourage and support clean energy investments."
