While the operation against dozens of soldiers in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) linked to FETÖ remains a prominent issue, President Erdoğan spoke about it for the first time. Erdoğan stated, "In the recent operations, we see that the organization is still attempting to infiltrate various structures. We have not and will not become complacent about this issue. No matter what guise they take, this struggle will reach its goal."
President Erdoğan answered journalists' questions about current issues on the plane returning from The Hague, Netherlands, where he attended the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit and held bilateral meetings.
JOURNALIST'S QUESTION ABOUT FETÖ
On the plane, a journalist asked President Erdoğan, "It has been revealed that Israel received inside information regarding its attacks on Iran. Consequently, high-ranking Iranian commanders were killed in the first hours of the attacks. Turkey went through a major ordeal on July 15 and has been seriously fighting against FETÖ since that day. However, recently in an operation against FETÖ, 174 active-duty and 176 military personnel were detained. Considering this situation in Iran, is there a possibility of gaining new momentum in the fight against FETÖ?"
ERDOĞAN: WE HAVE NEVER BEEN COMPLACENT, AND WE WILL NOT BE
Stating that all state institutions have been resolutely continuing the fight against FETÖ since July 15, President Erdoğan said, "We see that the organization is still attempting to infiltrate various structures in the recent operations. We have never been complacent about this, and we will not be. It is becoming clearer today how great a threat FETÖ is to our country. I have always expressed that if we show pity to this organization, we will end up in a pitiable state."
"THIS STRUGGLE WILL ACHIEVE ITS GOAL"
There have been those who distorted our statements to draw attention to this FETÖ threat. But in the end, we have always been proven right. Turkey will eventually be completely rid of this scourge. We have largely purged this organization from our institutions, and we are cleaning up the remnants. Our law enforcement and intelligence units are conducting extremely meticulous work. No matter what guise they take or where they hide, this struggle will achieve its goal.
"THE ENEMY DOES NOT SLEEP"
I believe that after the recent operations, everyone understands why we should not forget and should not let others forget the spirit of July 15. Because the threat was not limited to that night. We understood this from the very first day and have been trying to explain it. The enemy does not sleep. Therefore, we will not sleep either."
