Speaking at the Global Transport Corridors Forum, President Erdoğan stated, "In 2002, the total number of vehicles in our country was around eight and a half million, and our average intercity speed was forty kilometers per hour. Today, despite the number of vehicles exceeding thirty-two million, our average travel speed has increased to ninety kilometers. In other words, we have truly written an epic in every aspect of transportation."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made evaluations regarding the agenda at the Global Transport Corridors Forum held at the Istanbul Congress Center.
"WE HAVE WRITTEN A LEGEND IN EVERY SENSE"
Sharing figures about the number of vehicles and the average intercity speed in 2002 when they took office, Erdoğan stated, "In 2002, the total number of vehicles in our country was around eight and a half million, while our average speed between cities was forty kilometers per hour. Today, although the number of vehicles in our country has exceeded thirty-two million, our average travel speed has increased to ninety kilometers. We have truly written a legend in every aspect of transportation. Of course, I must also emphasize this bitter truth. While the government was making all these investments, we also had to fight against the efforts of the opposition and marginal organizations in our country to obstruct us. They tried every means, including street events, to sabotage the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which we proudly added as a third necklace to the Bosphorus. There have been countless slanders regarding Istanbul Airport. There were days when they asked if we would eat the road. There were days when they called it sheer waste. There were days when they said that building new roads would not solve the traffic problem. There were days when they kept vigil at the courthouse doors to stop the projects," he said.
