DEVA Party Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya announced that he resigned from his party due to disagreements. After the resignation, as Yeni Yol's number of MPs fell from 20 to 19, the requirement of 20 MPs to form a group in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey could not be met, and its group status ended.
The resignation of DEVA Party Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya from his party changed the political balance in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). With Kaya's departure, the New Road Group, whose number of MPs fell to 19, lost the requirement of 20 MPs necessary to form a group in Parliament.
ERTUĞRUL KAYA ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION
DEVA Party Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya announced in a statement on his social media account that he had resigned from his party.
Stating that he shared his decision with DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan in a meeting in September, Kaya said that he left all his duties in the party in line with the timetable he had previously announced.
“I AM RESIGNING DUE TO MY DISAGREEMENTS”
Explaining the reason for his resignation as disagreements, Kaya used the following statements in his post:
“Due to my disagreements, of which the authorized bodies of the DEVA Party have long been aware, and in light of the decision to part ways that I shared during my meeting with Chairman Mr. Ali Babacan in September, I hereby inform the public that, as of today, I have resigned from all my duties in the DEVA Party in line with the timetable I declared.”
THE NEW ROAD GROUP LOST THE 20-MP REQUIREMENT
With Ertuğrul Kaya's resignation, the number of MPs of the New Road Group in the TBMM fell from 20 to 19.
There is a requirement to have at least 20 MPs to form a political party group in Parliament. The New Road Group, having fallen below this number, thus lost its group status in the TBMM.
