S.M.M., an Iraqi national wanted for migrant smuggling by many countries, especially Italy and Greece, was caught at Istanbul Airport while trying to enter Turkey with a fake passport. The suspect was arrested and sent to prison after police procedures.

A suspect of Iraqi nationality, alleged to have been involved in migrant smuggling organizations targeting Europe via the Aegean Sea, was arrested in Istanbul under an international arrest warrant.

S.M.M., of Iraqi origin, wanted for the crime of "migrant smuggling" by various countries, especially Italy and Greece, was arrested at Istanbul Airport.

CAUGHT WHILE ENTERING WITH A FAKE PASSPORT

Within the scope of operations conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Anti-Migrant Smuggling Branch Directorate, it was learned that the 55-year-old suspect, who was wanted by multiple countries for "international-level migrant smuggling activities," would enter Turkey using a fake passport.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as having been involved in migrant smuggling organizations arranged via the Aegean Sea towards European countries, was internationally wanted by Greek and Italian security forces for this reason. It was learned that the suspect was caught on June 13 while entering Turkey from Istanbul Airport with a fake passport.

ARRESTED AND SENT TO PRISON

S.M.M., who was also determined to be wanted in Turkey for the crimes of "Establishing an Organization for the Purpose of Committing a Crime" and "Migrant Smuggling," was taken to the Istanbul Police Department to give his statement. The human smuggling suspect, after completing procedures at the police station, was arrested by judicial authorities and sent to prison.
