Those who grind meat without permission and authorization during the Eid al-Adha will face a fine of 63,000 lira. The President of the Adana Butchers' Chamber, Saruhan Yağmur, emphasized that no one other than butchers should grind meat, warning citizens that even tire repairmen, hairdressers, and mechanics are grinding meat.
The President of the Antalya Branch of the Chamber of Food Engineers, Ali Manavoğlu, stated that those who grind meat from animals slaughtered during the Eid al-Adha period in unsuitable places and unhygienic conditions are playing with the health of citizens. Emphasizing that it is inappropriate to grind meat in neighborhoods by irrelevant individuals, either mobile or fixed, disregarding health and hygiene conditions, Manavoğlu said that neglecting cleanliness rules facilitates the contamination of meat with microorganisms that cause diseases and spoilage.
Manavoğlu stressed that those who want to convert sacrificial meat into minced meat at a low cost should not prefer those who operate illegally in open environments with machines that have been stored for months in warehouses and basements without proper maintenance and disinfection. He pointed out that the dismemberment, preservation, and grinding of sacrificial meat must be done in a hygienic environment and warned citizens who fulfill their sacrificial duties to have the dismemberment and grinding of meat done in butcher shops.
Manavoğlu explained that in previous years, it was often observed that individuals from various trades such as hardware stores and barbers, referred to as 'underground' operations, performed meat grinding in the streets with any machine. He stated, "For unauthorized and unlicensed meat grinding, a fine of 21 thousand 6 lira is imposed on the unauthorized person, and a fine of 42 thousand 76 lira is applied due to unsuitable conditions and hygiene."
It was noted that fines are imposed by relevant ministries and municipal teams upon complaints.
EVEN HAIRDRESSERS ARE GRINDING MEAT
The President of the Adana Butchers' Association, Saruhan Yağmur, warned both citizens and tradesmen in a statement before the upcoming Eid al-Adha. Yağmur reminded that everyone should do their own profession and stated that, as in every Eid al-Adha, those who grind meat may emerge this year as well, emphasizing that the meat grinding job belongs to butchers. He recalled that in previous years, tire repairmen, mechanics, and even hairdressers set up a meat grinder and ground meat during the holiday, stating that this year, such practices would not be allowed and heavy penalties would be imposed.
Yağmur indicated that a circular had been issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding this issue, stating, "According to this, tax exemptions will be canceled if tradesmen outside the butchery profession grind meat. Everyone should do their own job. As Eid al-Adha approaches, every place is filled with butchers. We will be on the field regarding this issue and will increase our inspections. If professions such as hairdressers, tire repairmen, or mechanics attempt to act as butchers, legal action will be taken."
