In the negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh, Hamas requested the deployment of Turkish soldiers to Gaza to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. However, U.S. officials conveyed that Israel opposed the presence of Turkish troops.

The negotiations for the implementation of the 20-point Gaza plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump have begun in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Among the main objectives of the plan are achieving a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the region, and a hostage exchange. In the discussions involving regional countries and key actors, the security and implementation mechanisms of the plan are being addressed.

EGYPT REQUESTED U.S. TROOPS

According to some news sources (Middle East Eye), the Egyptian government has communicated to Washington that U.S. troops should play a role in the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in Gaza. The same source reported that the model of the International Stabilization Force is requested to be based on the example of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) deployed in the Sinai Peninsula in 1982.

TURKISH MILITARY PRESENCE IS A SUBJECT OF DISCUSSION

According to claims reported by Middle East Eye, Hamas has requested the deployment of Turkish troops in Gaza to secure the ceasefire. U.S. officials have indicated that Israel opposes the presence of Turkish troops.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS IN THE REGION

A report based on an Arab official stated that some U.S. troops stationed at the Al Udeid airbase in Qatar may be relocated to Jordan in the near future. Additionally, there are indications that the number of troops the U.S. government will deploy in the region may be higher compared to other countries. These plans will be shaped according to the scope of security guarantees in the negotiations.

MIT PRESIDENT IBRAHIM KALIN IN SHARM EL-SHEIKH

According to security sources, the President of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), Ibrahim Kalın, will participate in the ceasefire and prisoner exchange negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh. It was reported that Kalın had bilateral contacts with U.S., Egyptian, Qatari, and Hamas officials prior to the talks. Turkey's involvement in the process indicates that it could play a key role in discussions on mediation and security guarantees among regional actors.

PRIORITIES ON THE AGENDA

The main agenda items that the parties will address are as follows:

  • Achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza,
  • Conducting a hostage/prisoner exchange,
  • Ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and establishing humanitarian corridors,
  • Security mechanisms: the structure of the international force model and deployment methods.

THE QUESTION WAS ALSO ASKED TO ERDOĞAN

President Erdoğan, upon returning from his visit to Azerbaijan, responded to the question, "Will Turkish troops be in Gaza?" by saying, "Our priority is to achieve an urgent and comprehensive ceasefire as soon as possible. We need to accomplish this first. It is essential that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza without interruption as soon as possible. Rebuilding the infrastructure of Gaza, which has been destroyed as a result of Israeli attacks, is also among our priorities. We are conducting intense diplomatic traffic for this. It is very important that Gaza remains the land of the Palestinian people. Ultimately, it is also crucial that Gaza is managed by the Palestinians. The issue of how security will be ensured and how the stabilization force will be established and operated can be evaluated in detail. For this reason, I truly attach great importance to the negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh. The talks began today, but tomorrow's discussions are significant. Our President of the National Intelligence Organization will also be there. The outcome from there is of great importance. When I say 'We will support all efforts,' I made this statement considering all possibilities. We hope that Israel will keep its promises and will not take steps to sabotage this peace. We are as hopeful for a lasting ceasefire and peace as we are cautious," he replied.
